The POS-X Xi3000-BT Wireless barcode scanner brings an ideal combination of reliability and performance with a rugged, shock-resistant body and advanced auto-sensing features. The long line-of-sight range of this wireless scanner permits operation up to 50 meters away from the base station.
Typical uses and environments:
This rugged Bluetooth model of the Xi3000 displays its best performance in light to medium industrial environments. Its rubber exterior and shock-absorbent body provides the necessary components for a warehouse-ready scanner. While it is rugged, the POS-X Xi3000BT’s scan engine also works great in large retail applications with medium to high volume.
Unique Features & Advantages:
A user’s guide CD, printable quick start guide, printable full configuration manual, scanner configuration software, and spare lithium ion batteries come with the Xi3000BT. The configuration software offers advanced configuration of the scanner, including editing how it transmits data and what types of barcodes it will scan.
Doubling as a spare battery charger, the Base Station holds the Xi3000BT upright in the cradle. The dual-function base station charges the extra battery while the scanner is in use, so there's always a charged battery ready to use.
Standard Features:
Along with the scanner comes the base station/cradle. While it’s similar to the Xi3000 stand in that the scanner is upright, it is not auto sense capable. The Xi3000BT’s black rubberized portions line the scanner on the head, heel, and front of the handle. Having the protection of the rubberized areas means it will be less likely to damage the scanner or the merchandise. A shock-resistant body also helps prevent damage when dropped.
To aid in the task of knowing whether or not a successful scan has been completed, the Xi3000BT is equipped with status lights on the head next to the engraved POS-X logo. Normally, the light is not on, but it will flash red for a good read, and green for any status problem.
Drawbacks:
The POS-X Xi3000BT only has a couple of drawbacks. The first drawback we noticed was the scan tone, because it is louder than most retail scanners. The loud tone could be very useful in a large or noisy warehouse. However, if you are in a quieter setting and require a softer scanner, the pitch can be altered or removed completely, if necessary.
As mentioned previously, the Xi3000BT is shipped with a base station that does not have auto sense technology. This will be less of an issue when the wireless function is utilized to its full potential. In most of these cases, the scanner will not have much contact with the base station aside from charging.
Performance Testing:
In testing the performance of the POS-X Xi3000BT, we ran it through a battery of tests, including optimal scan range testing, dense, wide, and damaged barcode robustness, light resistance, as well signal range. Our testing determined the scanner to mainly fall in line with other scanners in its class.
When we tested the scan range of the Xi3000BT, it scanned accurately from 4” to 10”, with intermittent scanning as close as 3” and as far as 14”. This range is standard for retail and light industrial use. Most of our poor quality barcodes were no match for the Xi3000BT. Additionally, it had the ability to read barcodes up to six inches wide, and read 10 of our 13 high density barcodes.
The greatest advantage of the scanner was its signal range test results. While maintaining line-of-sight with the base station, the Xi3000BT kept the signal over 160 feet. When objects obstructed the line-of-sight, it read out to 135 feet, which is well above average for cordless scanners. Additionally, after the Xi3000BT lost the signal, it re-synched when it came close enough to the base station. This feature proves to be very convenient as many of the other Bluetooth scanners did not re-synch, thus requiring the scanner to return all the way back to the base station.
When testing the light resistance of the scanner, we noticed the Xi3000BT was slightly below average for its class. The spot light test determined that the Xi3000BT struggled to scan barcodes properly when the light was at 12” away from the barcode.
A breakdown of the POS-X Xi3000BT’s capabilities is listed in table and graph form below.
