FAQ# 1035:

My scanner will not read my Code 3 of 9 barcodes, is there a configuration I can do to fix this?

Question

My scanner will not read my Code 3 of 9 barcodes, is there a configuration I can do to fix this?

Answer

The Code 3 of 9 barcode symbology is enabled by default on the most barcode scanners. A possible cause of the problems is the barcode itself is not a standard Code 3 of 9 (also known as Code 39). You will want to verify the symbology of that particular barcode, a sample can be sent to [email protected] for analysis.

An example of a nonstandard 3 of 9 symbology would be the Trioptic code 3 of 9 barcode which is unfortunately not supported by some barcode scanners.
