Heat, and humidity can cause the thermal receipt paper to darken (thus the thermal part in thermal receipt printer because the printer uses heat to apply the text to the paper), making it difficult to read the information, which is why impact printers using ink, and normal receipt paper are typically used in a kitchen environment.
