FAQ# 2262: Can I use standard ribbons with the Zebra ZD420 label printer?

No, the only ribbons that are compatible with the ZD420 are the easy-to-load ribbon cartridges found here: https://www.posguys.com/barcode-label-stock_64/Zebra-Ribbon-Cartridge_2507/
These Ribbon cartridges contain a chip to verify the authenticity of the cartridge with the printer. The cartridges are not refillable but they can be recycled once they are used up. Zebra has set up a recycling program for used cartridges. Just box up the spent cartridges and send them to this address:
