FAQ# 2388: What's the difference between Honeywell Standard Range (SR), FlexRange (XR), and Extended Range (XLR) Scanners?

Question

What's the difference between Honeywell Standard Range (SR), FlexRange (XR), and Extended Range (XLR) Scanners?

Answer

Standard Range The SR model is ideally suited to normal, near-field scanning operations on 1D and 2D barcodes.
FlexRange The XR model is ideally suited to normal, near-field scanning operations on 1D and 2D barcodes, plus expanded range scanning. This means that the scanner will be able to scan barcodes close and far.
Extended Range The XLR model is ideally suited to far-field scanning operations on 1D and 2D barcodes. If you need to scan items that are exclusively really away this is the option for you. If you also need to scan barcodes that are closer, a FlexRange scanner might be a better fit because Extended Range scanners aren't designed to read barcodes that are close.
