When I scan a product, why does a different number show up than the number I entered into my software for that product?
Most barcode scanners are configurable: They can include or discard the leading or trailing digits of a UPC barcode, they can often perform custom data parsing, and they can otherwise alter the barcode data in a variety of ways. For this reason, sometimes the number which your barcode scanner outputs will differ from the number you expect.
Given the variety of ways a scanner can alter this data, it is difficult to provide detailed troubleshooting information without more specific details about how the scanner output differs from expected output.
