FAQ #995
Question
Why am I receiving a "device not recognized" message using my barcode scanner?
Answer
If you get a USB device not recognized error message, a couple of issues could be present.
The first of which is the device itself could have failed. If you can plug the device into multiple different ports across a couple of different computers and every time you get the same message, then the device itself has ceased to function and you will need to consult the manufacturer for warranty information.
If the scanner is using a USB adapter to adapt it from for example the PS/2 port selection this could also mean a failure in the adapter rather then the device itself. Test the scanner on a computer with a native PS/2 port to see if the unit is still functioning.
