Honeywell CT50 Mobile Computer Video
Hi, this is Travis with POSGuys.com. This is a review of the Honeywell CT50 Mobile Computer. It is a fantastic mobile computer, it's basically a combination of the Dolphin Black 60 and the older Dolphin 600 of an Intermec mobile computer. Intermec was acquired by Honeywell. This is a very tough and rugged mobile computer, while maintaining a familiar form factor to an Android phone. It runs Android KitKat, it has the capability of Android Marshmallow when that is made available to Honeywell. It also has a Windows Mobile OS that eventually will be a Windows 10 OS, so it's going to be kind of a future proof type of investment right now. It's a very responsive capacitive screen on it. you just flick, you can do multi-gesture on it. It runs full Chrome, so if you're going to be loading your company's website and just scanning straight into the website you can do that. You can download your Android apps that you've created for phone use.
The barcode scanner is of course built straight in to it, it's at the top of the scanner. It's a 2D imager capable of scanning drivers licenses, as well as 1D barcodes for retail applications. If you're looking up inventory it scans it just fine, if you're going to be working in the field and you're going to be doing registration then you can scan barcodes and enter in your customer's information straight on to the device very easily, much more conveniently than a Bluetooth scanner and a cell phone. It's also a tougher and more rugged than a cell phone. It has an IP seal on it that allows it to get wet, get a little dust on it you can wipe it down. If you're using it in a medical setting and you get bodily fluids on it you can sterilize the unit by spraying chemicals on it or whatever you need to do to clean the device.
It comes with a interchangeable battery, you can slip the cover off the back and switch out the battery. The base that is required for use can charge the device and an extra battery at the same time. A hand strap is also built into it, with a stylus. This won't work with gloves, so if you're going to be using it in the field and you're going to be wearing gloves, you'll either have to pick up the stylus and use the stylus, or you'll have to take off your gloves. You can't really use the device through your gloves.
It comes with a 1 year warranty. It has 2 gigabites of RAM built into it, 16 gig of storage by default. 4 core processor, it runs all the apps that we could find just great on it. It runs websites just fine as well. A camera is also built in, so if you're going to be doing some kind of surveying or warranty work, you can scan the barcode of the item and then use the camera on it to document any kind of damage being done, so overall a fantastic mobile computer. The scanner on this is absolutely fantastic. It's a 2D imager, so you can see the pattern. It's got a nice box reticle, with a line and a center dot. It's a very aggressive barcode scanner, I have 2D and 1D barcodes scanners on this sample label. The 2D barcodes it picks up from almost contact, just about an inch back. And that's with the 2D barcode. When you look at the 1D barcodes, you can get about 2 feet back, absolutely fantastic scanning. Scan from many angles. Worn, damaged barcodes it scans just great, so absolutely amazing scan engine. You can also configure it a little bit, you can have it send a carriage return automatically when you scan, or you can set a tab, or nothing at all. Kind of the basic barcode scanner settings.
For outdoor conditions under bright light it won't affect it. You can scan in bright light, so use this outdoors for your logistics, if you're going to be doing deliveries, you want to scan the barcode of the item being delived and take a signature. Great outdoor scanner. Some of the laser scanners on a mobile computer don't work great outdoors, they're kind of for indoor use only, this is outdoor and indoor use.
2D barcode scanners can also scan drivers licenses, so if you're going to be doing some kind of registration or you're in the field, and you're going to be identifying people in the field and you want to scan their drivers licenses and get their information, great solution for this. You can scan straight into a text document and just capture all the information, or you can have a custom application that marks this data, it's up to you how you want to use this. The beauty of Android and the open OS is that you can have apps, you can use websites, you can do virtually whatever you want, much more flexible than traditional mobile computers. The CT50 is a wonderful mobile computer. It runs Android OS, KitKat for now, uprgrade eventually to Marshmallow, and then it also runs Windows mobile, and eventually upgradeable to a Windows 10 OS. Out of the box, it comes with a 1 year warranty, it has a four core processor and a 4400 Milla battery, which is better than just about any phone out there, it's going to last for all day use. You can also swap the battery if you're going between shifts. For more information on the CT50 or to purchase, please visit us at POSGuys.com Thanks!
