The POS-X Xi3000 is a linear LED-based barcode scanner and is the flagship scanner of the POS-X brand. The ruggedized body and strong scan engine allow it to perform well in a variety of environments.

Typical uses and environments:
The Xi3000’s design gives it the durability necessary to survive in light to medium industrial settings or retail environments that may be rougher than average. The scan engine is aggressive enough to quickly scan barcodes, ideal for locations that experience medium to high paced retail, light industrial environments, health care, and general scanning.

POS-X Xi3000Features & Advantages:
To ease the installation process, the POS-X Xi3000 ships fully assembled with everything you need in one box. It also ships with a wall or desk mountable cup/holster, creating a secure location to hold your scanner when not in use. An auto-sense stand is available for purchase, utilizing magnets to set the scanner to auto-sense mode. This eliminates the configuration problems that may occur from switching back and forth between auto-sense and standard modes.
In the rare instance where you need help with your scanner, POS-X’s tech support is very easy to work with and courteous, with an expert understanding of how to configure the equipment to do almost anything. A black rubberized housing, including rubber on the boot and around the beam hood, give the scanner the tools necessary to both protect itself and any products it may bump into. The LED located next to the POS-X logo on the top of the head unit lights up when the scanner initially receives power, and will also flash green upon a successful scan.
Configuration tools are available on an included CD, including a printable quick start guide, printable full configuration manual, and scanner configuration software. The configuration software allows for advanced configuration of the scanner, including editing how it transmits data and what types of barcodes it will scan.

Drawbacks:
The POS-X Xi3000 has a couple of drawbacks, most of which can be reconfigured to meet your needs. The scanning tone is louder than some other scanners, which might be a drawback for quiet retail settings, but could be a bonus for louder industrial settings. The pitch can be altered or tone silenced, if needed. The auto sensing stand is also not adjustable. It holds the scanner upright with the beam displaying parallel to the counter on which it’s placed. This works fine in most cases but is not as convenient as an adjustable stand.

Performance Testing:
In testing the performance of the POS-X Xi3000, we ran it through a battery of tests, including optimal scan range testing, dense, wide, and damaged barcode robustness, light resistance, as well durability. Our testing determined the scanner to fall in line with other scanners in its class.

POS-X Xi3000In testing the scan range of the Xi3000, we determined our model to scan accurately from 4” to 10”, with intermittent scanning as close as 3” and as far as 14”. This range is standard with what an average retail employee would use to scan products both at checkout and on the shelf. Additionally, the Xi3000 has the ability to read barcodes up to six inches wide, it read 10 of our 13 high density barcodes, and read most of our poor quality barcodes as well. All of these results fell into the standard range of most products in its class, and make it a solid candidate for most retail and light industrial applications.
st of its competition by surviving multiple 3’, 6’, and 13’ drops to concrete – becoming unusable only after the final drop. POS-X’s drop specification lists the Xi3000 as surviving 6.5’ drops to concrete, thus it exceeded those specifications. The biggest shortcoming we noticed occurred when testing the light resistance of the scanner. During our direct sunlight test, the Xi3000 struggled to scan barcodes properly, only getting reads when clouds obscured the sun or shadows fell onto the barcode. However, these limitations in no way hinder the POS-X Xi3000’s abilities while in use indoors in retail environments.

A breakdown of the POS-X Xi3000’s capabilities is listed in table and graph form below.
