The DS4608 reads conventional 1D and 2D product labels as well as coupons, loyalty IDs, and tickets displayed on mobile devices. Its rear-mounted scan engine provides room for a broad field of view, helping it capture wide package and carton barcodes at closer, more practical distances.

Support for DotCode and dotted DataMatrix lets selected workflows read symbols used on products such as tobacco packages, even when the mark sits behind cellophane.

Superior “Can’t Miss” Scanning Range

SR and DL configurations read a typical 13 mil UPC from contact to 28 inches and a 20 mil QR code out to 17.5 inches. HD and HL configurations trade some long-range reach for finer resolution, reading down to 2 mil Code 39 and 4 mil DataMatrix; their typical 13 mil UPC range extends to 18 inches.

PRZM Intelligent Imaging works with the megapixel sensor and 800 MHz processor to improve decoding before data reaches the host. A 15% minimum print-contrast rating and broad pitch, skew, and roll tolerance help the scanner read low-contrast, damaged, poorly printed, or awkwardly presented labels with fewer retries.

The standard-range engine can read a 13 mil UPC as far as 28 inches away and a 20 mil Code 39 as far as 44 inches under typical conditions. This reach is useful for bulky items in a cart and makes the DS4608 a practical auxiliary handheld beside a bioptic scanner in high-volume checkout lanes.

Day-in, Day-Out Dependability

IP52 sealing, double-sealed optics, and a recessed scan window help protect the scanner from dust, spills, smudges, and scratches. Its housing is designed for multiple 6-foot drops to concrete and 2,000 tumbles in a 1.5-foot tumbler, supporting frequent handling at checkout and service counters.

The DS4608 operates from 32 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit and resists ambient light up to 10,000 foot-candles. Those ratings support indoor retail, hospitality, inventory, drive-thru, and receiving applications, but the IP52 rating is not intended for outdoor exposure or wash-down use.

On-the-Fly Switching Between Handheld and Hands-Free

Place the DS4608 in an optional Intellistand for hands-free presentation scanning, then pick it up for targeted handheld reads. The scanner senses the transition and changes modes automatically, so associates do not need to scan a programming barcode between tasks.

Flexible Feedback Modes That Work for Any Retail Environment

Good-decode LEDs, rear-view LEDs, an adjustable beeper, and Direct Decode Indicator confirm successful reads. Direct Decode Indicator projects illumination onto the decoded barcode itself, giving associates an immediate visual cue in noisy checkout or receiving areas.
