Metrologic Voyager GS Review Review
The VoyagerGS is Metrologic’s next generation hand-held scanner, building on the strengths of the Voyager while utilizing a triggered Gun-Style design. Typical uses and environments: The VoyagerGS’s design and scanning prowess allow it to work well in medium to high volume retail environments. Unique Features & Advantages: As with many of the Metrologic laser scanners, the VoyagerGS can be programmed to send one of seven standard tones, as well as seven tones that sound like effects from an 8-bit video game. These “fun tones” provide a unique alternative to the standard beeps you hear in retail environments. Standard Features: The Metrologic VoyagerGS comes standard with scanner, interface cable, user’s manual, and configuration guide. An optional auto-sense stand can also be included. The scanner is gray with black rubber molding around the boot, handle, and hood, protecting the VoyagerGS and your products from accidental collisions. An LED on the hood shines blue while the trigger is pressed and flashes white after successful scans. When in autosense mode, the LED will change to an amber color. Performance Testing: To determine the capabilities of the Metrologic VoyagerGS, we ran it through a battery of tests designed to identify the optimal scan range, densest scannable barcode, widest scannable barcode, and resistance to light. Our tests found the VoyagerGS to be a marked improvement over the original Voyager and a solid scanner for its class. The optimal scan range for the VoyagerGS was from contact to 12” for 100% UPC-A barcodes, excellent for retail locations. The densest barcode scanned was 4.9 mil, far denser than experienced in most standard environments. It was able to scan all but two of our damaged, worn, and dirty barcodes, so it should be a great choice for retail environments where barcodes may get a little worn out. Light resistance can be troublesome for laser scanners, especially ones designed for standard retail environments. They’ll work aptly in standard lighting, but begin to falter as brightness increases. Fortunately, the VoyagerGS worked properly with our light up to 8” away, but did have problems in direct sunlight. A breakdown of the Metrologic VoyagerGS capabilities is listed in table and graph form below. 1D Results
Conclusion: The Metrologic VoyagerGS is a solid scanner that will provide you will excellent use for quite some time. The combination of gun-style scanning and CodeGate technology ensure accurate reads for any retail environment. To Purchase this product, go to the Metrologic VoyagerGS page.
