Hi, this is Travis with POSGuys. We're adding a new section to POSGuys. This is basically ask the guys a question. One of the common questions that we get is, "do I need a 2D barcode scanner?" The answer is, it'd be good. 1D barcode scanners scan 1D barcodes. 2D scanners scan 1D barcodes and 2D barcodes, but 2D meaning that their beam isn't just horizontal. So it doesn't have to be just perpendicular to the bars, it can be any angle. So what that means is greater productivity. You don't have to spend so much time lining up your barcode, you can just scan it from any angle. It's just kinda point it however you want, and scan it. Versus a 1D scanner where you have to be lined up. You know, when you're off angle, you're not scanning. So less efficient, less productivity, so that's the reason to have a 2D barcode scanner. Even if you're only doing 1D barcodes. Obviously if you're doing 2D barcodes, if you're gonna be scanning driver's license to do registries, you're gonna be scanning QR codes to do mobile couponing, then your gonna want a 2D barcode. But just in general 2D barcodes are a good idea. If you can afford it, it's worth the upgrade. So recommend 2D barcode scanners. Travis from POSGuys, and keep asking your questions.

Hi, this is Travis with POSGuys.com and we're doing another Ask POSGuys. One of the questions that we get often is how do I use a USB scanner with an iPad? There's no USB ports on an iPad, but what you can get for it is a camera-connectivity kit. If you search for that on the Apple website, they'll have a little dongle-looking thing. Here's another example of it. This one has three USB ports and some card-reader ports. On the other end is your older-style Apple port. When you plug it in, this one requires power, you then have three USB ports where you can plug in your barcode scanner. On the screen it's going to say it cannot use this device, Symbol barcode scanner not found, or it'll say DataLogic barcode scanner, whatever the manufacturer is. You just click OK, but when you go to use the device, then it scans without a problem. So that's how you get a USB barcode scanner to work. Apple doesn't officially support this, you have to use it at your own risk. Hi, this is Travis with POSGuys.com. Today we're going over how to pair the 3070 with iOS7. From your main screen you click on Settings, and then you go to Bluetooth, and this' the screen you'll see. You'll see the 3070 available there. You hold down the double bat-wings to put it into pairing mode <Beep>. And then you click Next. And they'll ask you for a pairing request, and it'll give you a code number. You have to then print out the numeric barcodes for PIN entry, and scan the appropriate numbers. <Beeping> And once that's done, it is paired up. So you can use it like a human interface device, or HID device. Notepad, you can scan barcodes. <Beeping> So on iOS6, one thing you had to do was toggle the keyboard. So when you press the minus button on it, it toggles the keyboard. So if you wanted to use the on-screen keyboard, you have to do that, and then to scan again, you have to press the minus, and then you can scan. <Beeping> With iOS7, the on-screen keyboard doesn't disable a Bluetooth keyboard, or Bluetooth scanner. So you can scan and type, and scan and type, you don't, you no longer have to toggle the keyboard. So that's a nice discovery with iOS7, and it makes scanning and using Bluetooth scanner a little more convenient. Hi, this is Travis with POSGuys.com in another ask the POS guys installment. With iOS7, we often get asked, "did anything change with iOS7? Can I still use my Bluetooth barcode scanner with iOS7?" And the answer is yes, you can still use it, and it's actually been improved. You pair it through the Settings just like you did before. However when you scan barcodes now, you no longer have to toggle the keyboard. Previously you had to send the keyboard down, then you could scan, and then if you wanted to type something, you had to press the minus button, start typing again. Then if you want to scan, you had to turn off the keyboard, and scan. Now the keyboard can stay up, and you can scan away, and you can type, and you can scan, and you no longer have to toggle the keyboard.
