Disposing of POS Equipment

In some states there are strict laws against dumping electronics in the trash or dumpster. I would advise checking with local laws before disposing of your point of sale equipment or cash drawers. The good thing is that there are several options you can choose from to get rid of them. Lately, I've had questions about disposal practices and if we buy them back or can dispose of them ourselves.Here are some helpful tips if you have old Point of Sale equipment that you want to get rid of.

1. Sell it! Some equipment still holds value, especially popular legacy items like palm based handheld mobile computers or hard to get items and cables.  Try locally first with an Ad on Craigslist or newspaper. Many start up business look for cost effective solutions, chances are good that any good working older equipment will be bought. If you know another company or business you are acquainted with, see about donating or selling them your used equipment as well.

2. Recycle it! Electronic recyclers nationwide will help with disposing and recycling of your old equipment. Through EPA's website, you can view an interactive map of facilities that are certified for refurbishing and recycling. http://www.epa.gov/epawaste/conserve/materials/ecycling/certmap.htm

You can recycle any brand of cash drawer as metal scrap if the whole cash drawer is aluminum based (take out tray first).

Other plastics can be recycled as well, mostly everything minus circuitry can be recycled. Please help our environment by taking the time to find the best way to dispose of your equipment.
