Jack-O-Scanner (Pumpkin Barcode Scanner)
By: POSGuys - 10/3/2014
Do you have a Gym or Art Studio or something with a check-in counter and are looking to do some functional decorating for your check ins? Consider making a Jack-O-Scanner! We took a Motorola DS4800 that we were testing and used it to light up the insides of a pumpkin and create a barcode reader powered Jack-O-Latern. The DS4800 worked especially well because some of it's cool cosmetic features. The green LCD window on the front of it created a cool glowing green eye, the very bright scan pattern lit up the pumpkin really well, and the aiming reticle glowed outside the mouth. Now when s...
Cheap USB Barcode Scanner
By: POSGuys - 9/19/2014
Recently Datalogic sent us their newest entry level cost effective barcode scanner the Quickscan Lite QW2100. The original quickscan had a few different forms, you had the imager version the laser version and the bluetooth version. The imager version was one of our favorite basic retail scanners, so when they sent us a new quickscan lite which was also an imaging scanner we were skeptical on how it would compare. In short this new lite version of the scanner is fantastic. We tested the USB Interface, after plugging it in Windows recognized it, the drivers installed and it was good to go. Di...
Table Side Payment (aka the awkward moment where you watch someone evaluate you)
By: POSGuys - 9/15/2014
Recently ESPN reported a $.20 tip by Philadelphia Running Back LeSean McCoy. It's traditional in the US to do the tipping away from the server, you can evaluate the bill, recall your experience, and calculate a tip that makes sense. However with more stringent PCI rules table side payment is now becoming more and more common. Instead of taking the credit card to the payment terminal or POS Station, the server will take the payment terminal to the customer. This makes it more secure from having the credit card number written down or photoed as you have line of sight on the credit card the e...
Restaurant Point of Sale in Hawaii
By: POSGuys - 9/9/2014
On a recent trip to Honolulu Hawaii I couldn't help but take notice of the different restaurant pos systems in Honolulu and the surrounding areas. There was some unique challenges that I don't see in other areas of the US. Multi-lingual needs: The state is so diverse with different cultures and different languages. You see Japanese restaurants, Multiple forms of Chinese Restaurants, Local Hawaiian Plate Lunch, unique asian desert restaurants, European Tapas restaurants, pretty much anything you can imagine but definitely restaurants with an Asian or Pacific Island types of feel to them. Wh...

By: POSGuys - 1/9/2014
Occasionally we get questions that aren’t related to equipment that customers already own, but rather equipment that customers have looked at online, and wondered what purpose it serves. We received a great question from a customer who asked, “What is a peeler, or a dispenser on a printer?” Travis quickly grabbed a video camera and posted up an answer on YouTube: Transcript: Hi, this is Travis with POSGuys.com. Black-Mark Labels, What is it Used For?
By: POSGuys - 1/9/2014
Another excellent question was submitted by a customer earlier this week. They asked, “What are inward-facing lables, and what are black-mark-sensing labels, versus the more standard outward-rolled and gap-sensing labels?” Travis put up a short YouTube video, where he breaks down the differences: Transcript: Travis from POSGuys.com got a question asked from a customer. What are inward facing labels, what are black-mark-sensing labels, versus kind of the more standard outward rolled and gap sensing? This is outward rolled, its gap sensing. Meaning that on the back of the liner there's no m...
Tabletop or Desktop, What is the Difference?
By: POSGuys - 1/9/2014
We’ve received several new questions from customers that we wanted to highlight here in the AP blog. One question was whether or not you can use tabletop media with a desktop printer. Here’s a link to our short video with Travis providing the answer: Transcript: Hi, this is Travis from POSGuys.com. Got a question from a customer. They asked, can you use tabletop media with a desktop printer? The desktop printers only support the half-inch core, the label they want is only available in the four-inch core. One trick that we use is we have a little hanger. You can hang the bigger cored table...
