Interface Types and Cable Lengths
By: POSGuys Support - 1/4/2016

Printer Cable Lengths Here at POSGuys we receive a lot of questions about how long a cable can be to attach a printer to a computer. The answer depends on the type of connection or interface of the printer. Let's start by looking at the most common interfaces. USB By far the most common interface for most devices in our lives, USB is the instantly recognizable connection type. Receipt printers, however, typically use the USB Type B port, which has a more squarish shape. The maximum length of USB, no matter the interface type, is only 16 feet. This is because the signal will degrade over a...

Honeywell EZ-DL not working
By: POSGuys - 11/10/2015

If you purchased a Honeywell Barcode Scanner with the EZ-DL drivers license parsing plug-in like the Xenon 1902 and find that it all of a sudden stops working after scanning the recall defaults barcode then don't worry the scanner still has the plugin, you just need to scan a barcode to tell your scanner that the EZ-DL plug-in should be used. The following barcode will re-enable ez-dl. After scanning the barcode you should once again be able to setup your scanner for driver's license parsing. If you have further issues configuring your Honeywell Scanner please call our tech support at 1-800-9...

Compatibility Problems - Systems
By: Ben - 10/27/2014

Some of the larger adversaries of hardware compatibility are proprietary systems and systems with limited support for interface types. The problem with proprietary systems is that only the approved hardware will work and is usually sold by the same manufacturer. Then you have systems with limited support for difference interfaces. The most common limitation I've ran into with these sorts of systems is them being limited to serial or other non-USB interfaces. This restriction is usually caused by how the software on the system or the system it self is built to communicate with other hardware....

By: Ben - 9/26/2014

When comparing the Aldelo software application for both the Windows Tablet and iPad, there is a major difference: Aldelo for Restaurants can be installed on a Windows tablet, but the Aldelo application for iPad is Aldelo Touch. There are some very noticeable differences between the two versions, here are a couple of them: Appearance – The layouts of the two versions are very different; the restaurant edition being more complex, while the touch edition is more streamlined. Fees – Aldelo for Restaurants has a flat fee, while Aldelo Touch had a monthly rate per station based on if the subscripti...

LS2208 Interface Issues: RS232
By: Ben - 9/15/2014

I ran into an interesting issue and solution today. A customer accidentally scanned a OPOS/JPOS configuration instead of the Standard RS232 configurations for their serial scanner. That may sound a little confusing, but what it basically means is that it was set to communicate in a way that wasn't possible with the cable it had. The user wasn't even able to attempt scanning in this situation, the device just acted like it wasn't getting power. Normally a USB cable would be used to reconfigure the device to defaults, which the customer didn't have. However, there was an interesting solution to ...

Whats causing the problem? (Printer Edition)
By: Ben - 8/22/2014

A huge part of of tech support is figuring out what the problem is and where its occurring, this is where troubleshooting comes in. In order to find the problem, the possible causes need to be narrowed down. A good example of this would be printing issues. There are a number of reasons that could either cause a printer to not print, or to print something other than it was supposed to. The first step would be to identify the main areas or stages of the printing process the problem could be in. I like to break it down into three main groups; the software, the driver, and the printer. The Softwa...

Aldelo & Software Glitches
By: Ben - 7/4/2014

One of the unusual things about Aldelo for Restaurants is a little glitch that prevents some changes to the settings in the back office form being applied. The solution for this issue is to enter the Store Settings section in the back office and click on the Extra Settings button on the Other Options tab. After the list of options appears, click done, save and then done. Doing this will refresh the registered settings and apply the changes that should have taken effect before. Little glitches like this happen in software and usually have a solution or work around. Awareness of these glitches a...
